Vadodara – The Cultural Capital of Gujarat

Vadodara, once the capital of erstwhile princely state of the Gaekwads, is one of the important cities of the state. It is one of the most beautiful and highly industrialized cities of India. Vadodara has undergone a complex transformation due to various cultural infusions i.e. Medieval, Mughal, Maratha, Maratha-British and finally the present.

Different cultures have gifted the city with various forms of art and architecture which remains as prime attraction of the city in the present day. Faculty of Fine Arts and Performing Arts in M.S.University attracts various talents in the city. It is known as the Cultural Capital of the State of Gujarat as one can discover art in its various forms. It is situated on the banks of river Vishwamitri. It had a rich and varied historical background before turning into a prosperous industrial and modern city.

 People

The people you will meet are gentle, peace loving, gracious, hospitable and cosmopolitan. The constant influx of people of varied origins has given the city a cosmopolitan culture. The large residential university and several public and private sector undertakings have attracted all kinds of talents to the city. You can explore varied spiritual religions of India in the city – Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, Sikhism etc and their places of worship. Vadodara serves as an education centre, an industrial city, and a commercial centre.


Language

The official language is Gujarati but Hindi, Marathi and English are widely used on streets and in Offices.


Time

The Indian Standard Time(IST) is five and a half hours ahead of GMT, four and a half hours behind Australian Eastern Tie and ten and a half hours ahead of American Eastern Time.
